Comments

When someone leaves a comment on our site, we collect what’s shown in the comment form, plus the commenter’s IP address and browser user agent — this helps us catch spam and keep the site secure.

We may send a hashed (anonymized) version of your email address to Gravatar to check if you have an account there. You can read Gravatar’s privacy policy at https://automattic.com/privacy/. Once a comment is approved, your profile photo (if you have one) shows up next to it publicly.

Media

If you upload photos to the site — for example with a product review — try to avoid images that still have location data (EXIF GPS) attached. Anyone who downloads that image can pull the location info out of it.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep the site running smoothly and to make browsing easier for you.

If you leave a comment, you can opt to have your name, email, and website saved in a cookie so you don’t have to retype them next time. These last a year.

Visiting the login page drops a temporary cookie just to check whether your browser accepts cookies. It holds no personal data and disappears once you close the browser.

Logging into your account sets a few cookies to keep you signed in and remember your display settings. Login cookies last two days, display settings a year — unless you check “Remember Me,” which keeps you logged in for two weeks. Logging out clears all of these.

Editing or publishing a post adds one more cookie, just to mark which post you were working on. No personal data in it, and it expires after a day.

Comments are generally kept indefinitely, along with their metadata, so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments from the same person automatically.

If you create an account, we hold onto the profile information you give us. You can view, update, or delete it at any time — except your username, which can’t be changed. Site admins can also see and manage this information when needed.

Order records are kept for as long as accounting, legal, customer service, or warranty requirements call for.

What rights you have over your data

If you’ve commented or have an account with us, you can ask for:

• A copy of the personal data we hold on you
• Corrections to anything inaccurate
• Deletion of your data, where we’re legally able to do so

Some information may still need to be kept for legal, fraud-prevention, accounting, or security reasons even after a deletion request.
